Gaia used to be extremely resentful. For as long as she could remember, with her memory being faulty enough as it was, she'd had a "faerie" living inside her, whispering to her, telling her what to do. She'd always felt like her time was short and it was only a matter of time before she wouldn't be in control of herself anymore, something that made her extremely volatile and prickly at those around her at first, especially those that wished to try to come to know her. She was overall very resentful of the faerie and how her life had become. Gaia was quick to take it out on others and assume the worst, such as seeing someone's concern for her health and wellbeing as them being afraid of her and her losing control and ruining everything. The power of darkness is extremely unwieldy and she barely understood how to use it, let alone how much longer she could take. This resentment also made it very hard for her to make friends with Ryne at first, one of the main cast who's a girl her own age, as she was too busy getting in her own head and lashing out to accept the olive branch she was offering her. When Ryne tries at first to reach out to her and express that she knew what she felt and understood, Gaia got angry, because how could she possibly? She had a found family and loved ones who cared for her. How could you possibly claim to know her when even she didn't know herself? Gaia had nothing anymore, and for all Ryne talked about "laters", Gaia didn't agree — she didn't know how much time she even had left, if there would be a later. She had to live each day for the moment, least it slip out of her hands — doing what she wanted, when she wanted.

In her eyes, the world had left her behind and she was extremely mad about it, and it made it hard for her to realize that there was life yet to live going forward. Gaia was also extremely resentful for her lack of memories, which mades it that much harder to feel like there's anything in life for her anymore. All she had was herself and the faerie, and she didn't even want the faerie because of how much pain and suffering its existence brought her. As they continued to fail at regaining her memories, she got mad and lashed out verbally in frustration at times, upset that everything they were doing wasn't working as she'd hoped it would. The being known as Eden, a creature the characters were attempting to wield in order to restore life to a wasteland known as the Empty, seems to be able to help everyone but her, when she was so sure that interacting with it was what the faerie wanted and would bring her back her memories. She can't enjoy the victory of bringing life back to the Empty, because even after all is said and done, she has nothing. No family, no memories, nothing. She was resentful that the world had moved on without her, with all that she's ever known, of which she can only slightly remember, being completely gone. All she had was her faerie, and even then, it didn't always talk to her, and when it did, it was usually for the worst.

She doesn't necessarily become aware of how resentful and negative she was to those around her until after she almost falls to darkness the first time, and Ryne's voice draws her back from it. She never really realized how much she appreciated Ryne until that moment, and how glad she was to hear her voice for once. It's a turning point moment for her, eventually revealing her caring nature as she went against her previously negative words when Ryne and the main character are in trouble, dashing in to save them and utilizing her magic in ways she hadn't tried before. Gaia says she won't give up on her future, on their future, and admits she wants to see what tomorrow will bring for them together in her desperation to save Ryne. When all is said and done and they succeed in saving her, she rushes to Ryne's side with an upset expression and holds her, extremely concerned for her well being. She even finally accepts Ryne's olive branch of going out for coffee biscuits together, something she'd previously blown off and chastised her for. She calls Ryne an idiot afterwards for giving her a compliment, yet finally seems to smile and be happy and talk relatively nicely with Ryne. They even laugh together, a stark difference from the doom and gloom Gaia had shown previously. According to her, as fleeting as the moment of laughter was, she finally felt content in that moment. She even warmed up enough and cared enough about her to agree with Ryne that they should care for and support each other going forward, since they're quite alike. She also insists on not being left behind on anything, thank you very much.

When the Warrior of Light returns to the First once more for the final leg of the Eden storyline, Gaia and Ryne have become inseparable. Gaia finally emerged out of her shell, still sassy but significantly kinder and more friendly and welcoming. Having a (girl)friend really helped bring out the good in her, and helped her see the good in herself, too. Their commitment to each other is put to the test though as it's revealed that Eden and the faerie that has haunted Gaia her whole life are in fact connected as they thought — in fact, they're one in the same, and an Ascian. Not just any Ascian, but an Ascian named Mitron, who claimed to know Gaia. Long story short, Mitron (she/her, as per side stories) was essentially Gaia's partner from another lifetime who had been slowly going insane trapped inside Eden for a hundred years thinking about nothing but Gaia, who had passed away shortly before she'd become trapped, waiting for her to reincarnate, and how much she'd wanted to see her again and for them to become reunited and fulfill their promise to always be together. A lot to take in! Of course, Gaia had a life she liked now, and a girl she liked now, and the faerie, now known as Mitron, had brought her nothing but despair her whole life, manipulating her as she had. She attempts to stand up to her, but it ultimately requires Ryne and the WoL to save her and defeat Mitron after the Ascian tries to brute force Gaia into her will.

But in their final moments together, Gaia shows incredible compassion towards Mitron, saying that perhaps they could find each other again in another lifetime, so that Mitron could be just a little more at ease as she passed. Gaia almost succumbs to the allure of the cold embrace of darkness once more before Ryne bursts in to save her and pull her out of it, and they have a very gay moment in a bunch of flowers with a big rainbow. Through finding friendship and understanding, love and compassion, Gaia was able to extend those things towards others in kind, and finally feel like she could have a life worth living, and that indeed she wanted to keep seeing what tomorrow would bring. She even decides to start journaling, about herself and about things of her past, so she wouldn't forget, and others wouldn't either. Gaia looks only towards the future now, though with respect towards the past — even though her birth name wasn't Gaia, but the name Mitron gave her based on her past life's name, she chose to keep using it even though they had found what her original birth name was, asking not to be told. She wanted to honor both her past and the present self she had found, who was "Gaia".
